Undergraduate teaching evaluation plays an important role in promoting the educational management and improving the teaching quality in colleges and universities. In this paper, considering the uncertainty and fuzziness in undergraduate teaching evaluation, we translate the problem of undergraduate teaching evaluation into a hybrid multi-attribute decision making with hybrid data which the attribute values integrate with real numbers, interval numbers and fuzzy numbers. To evaluate and rank the undergraduate teaching level for multiple alternative universities, we propose a novel optimization decision method based on grey relational analysis. Moreover, an application decision making example is given to highlight the implementation, availability, and feasibility of this optimization decision method.

With the design and simulation of single and double-tuned amplifiers as an example, this paper discusses the application of NI Multisim, the advanced software, in the communication circuit teaching. Using the NI Multisim simulation platform, the parameters of various components in the circuit can be set freely. The relationship between the specific circuit parameters and the circuit performance can be investigated directly and in depth by referring to the simulation results. The proper combination of NI Multisim simulation software and the NI ELVIS platform can provide an effective training platform for improving the students’ comprehensive abilities in circuit design.

Recent advances in information technology and telecommunications have made significant improvement in the delivery of education in pathology using a digital format. Digital pathology (DP) images are captured as static images by various scanning, imaging or mobile devices. Whole slide imaging/virtual microscopy (WSI/VM) can be obtained by robotic microscopy on an entire histological glass slide. Anonymized DP images may be stored in remote and/or cloud servers to be used in E-Learning and digital education. Since 1986, clinical services using telepathology (TP) technologies for the transfer of pathology images between distant locations have benefited many patients worldwide, including the University of Alberta. WSI by Real-time telepathology systems provides for a faster diagnosis in intraoperative frozen section and tele-consultations, as well as interactive components in digital education and continuing medical education (CME) for purposes of specialist re-certification or re-validation for the Royal College of Pathologists of Canada and College of American Pathologists. At present, the use of WSI by real-time TP system in DP education seems to be limited due to high bandwidth requirement and high expense, but electronic platforms and their connection to stable operating systems are improving enormously. Social media and mobile devices are increasingly being used in DP education and may provide future platforms for the delivery of DP education. However, full-scale implementations of technologies in DP education may be limited, due to limited resources and infrastructural support, and the lack of integration into the existing laboratory information systems (LIS) or Provincial Health Networks (PHN).

The educational technology --- clicker, has been widely used in college and middle school physics classroom in domestic and abroad. In domestic, more focuses are put on the result after using it. But in this paper, student’s behaviors at clicker application in college physics classroom are analyzed. Through questionnaire survey, the student’s receptivity about clicker application before, during and after class has been analyzed. The results can be used for teachers to reasonably apply clicker in classroom.

Learning of Conservation and Rehabilitation Tasks in AEC [Architecture, Engineering, Construction] environments poses hard challenges for integrating materials, context and processes. Our approach is focused towards different multimedia representations [text, image, video, laser scan] with a common reference given by an evolving representation of a 2D or a 3D model. In a similar way to usual GIS (Geographic Information System), our approach can support different layers where tasks to be developed are designed, tracked and evaluated. Design involves 2D/3D/4D modelling by using different kinds of photogrammetric surveying, including images, laser-based information and previsible behavior in the next future. Our approach tries understanding complex interactions in damaged architectural objects having in account time evolution and successive interventions as a whole. Our software application intends to become an educational and corporative learning platform (e-Learning and e-Working), which will enable instructors to do an effective design of on-line courses and to improve an efficient management of learning techniques and collaboration activities on the web. Our contribution is focused towards the design and development of collaborative working environments, where specialists with different expertise can share their knowledge in a common open-source framework. This tool has been applied for planning intervention strategies, products and methodologies focused towards surveying, planning and executing conservation policies in architectural elements of the Spanish Cultural Heritage.

The objective of this article is to facilitate cloud based IT education by developing IT education specific Infrastructure as Service (IaaS). IaaS is one of the main cloud services. This paper considers IaaS development and application in IT education. For IT education, IaaS can be used to reduce cost, enhance security, and provide flexibility. This paper begins with the investigation of requirements for IT education. It then provides design strategies to meet the requirements. Issues in planning and implementation will be discussed. This paper will present a case study to illustrate IaaS for IT education.

This paper introduced the composition and principle of the original JCCD-II mechanical experimental platform. Based on the innovative experiments of undergraduate students, we analysed the problems and deficiencies in the JCCD-II experimental platform, then added and improved the corresponding institutions to make it better. Performance before and after the improvement are compared. We verified the feasibility of our scheme by using Pro/E and ADAMS to simulate the Single-crank-and-double-rockers mechanism which is one of our schemes.

Students often face difficulties while learning Object Oriented Programming (OOP) concepts. Many researchers have proposed different approaches to improve the teaching and learning of OOP concepts. One possible method is to engage the students with stimulating 3D visualization environments to reduce the complexity while enhancing understanding of concepts. The visualization environments may improve programmer productivity and the OOP learning outcomes. However, still many researches’ conclusions were based on subjective assessments, where Computer Science (CS) lacks standard assessment methods for educators to measure their students’ learning outcomes. In this context, the purpose of this research is to illustrate a demonstration experiment using the Achievement Degree Analysis (ADA) approach to statistically evaluate the effectiveness of the visualization environment—ALICE—that is hypothesized to improve novice programmers’ understanding of OOP concepts at King Abdulaziz University’s (KAU), CS department female section, in Saudi Arabia. We focused on a specific intervention in OOP, but the experimental method could be applicable in a range of domains.

At Sultan Qaboos University, a Master’s level course offered by the Instructional and Learning Technologies Department in the College of Education used mobile devises to explore their uses and potential educational value. The students used their smartphones to personalize and interact with e-content delivered via the course management system, Moodle. In juxtaposition with the mobile usage, the instructor “flipped” some the content of the course. Flipped or reverse instruction is a relatively simple concept. Instead of the teacher delivering content in class lectures and homework for practice, the students are provided content instruction as homework and time to practice their skills during class. The flipped-mastery learning environment, based on Bloom’s Mastery model, provided an added element by allowing students to set their pace of mastering content. This paper focuses on a small investigative study using mobile devises for learning with the flipped-mastery delivery method and explores the potential roles of mobiles in Omani education. The paper concludes with thoughts on the intrinsic value of mobile devises for teaching and learning.

International businesses are trying to find an alternative to the traditional paradigmatic units of time, space and action which persist in the learning sphere. Immaterial assets have become strategic and the relationship to knowledge and information is thus changed. In this context, e-learning, which has emerged more slowly than expected, is becoming a real field of research in information systems. It plays an important role in the organizational transformations of globalized businesses. Are remote teaching devices capable of contributing to the evolution of cognitive organizations? An inductive approach was applied to a series of interviews and a model defined. Indeed, the ability to adapt to the environment’s fast variations must be regarded as necessary to encourage the appropriation of frequent technological changes. It may thus be noticed that in order to succeed, businesses must not rely only on access to knowledge anywhere and at any time.

This paper examines a new type of instant text-based feedback system that was implemented in a public speaking course for Japanese foreign language learners. We begin by examining past research concerning peer feedback during student presentations and its limitations. Study 1 specifically addresses the difficulty of analytic assessment in the practice of peer evaluation of low proficiency learners. After describing our feedback system and its actual use in a public speaking course for English as a Foreign Language (EFL) learners, Study 2 will demonstrate that text-based instant feedback is beneficial for both evaluators and the evaluated. The results of our study provide compelling evidence for the development of future foreign language learning instant feedback systems.

The massive diffusion of mobile technologies, distinctive of the latest years, has commanded to reflect upon the educational and social impact which such systems are able to have, especially on an audience of youngsters. Alongside questions trying to establish which features make to a good app for children, there is a debate upon which educational principles should be a guide to the use of these media, having in mind a world increasingly founded on equity and sustainability. This paper presents an Italian experience of collaboration between private industry and university planning and implements apps for children between 3 and 6 years old. The first part contains an analysis of the various assumptions on which the collaboration between the two partners is funded, with a highlight on the sharing process of the cultural and social goals to achieve. The attention then moves on to the collaboration process with a focus on the work organisation and the assigning of roles. Special concern is given to the products’ evaluating and certificating process, conducted through the identification of a range of quality principles of the apps. The final part concentrates on the relationship between sustainability and media education, considering the future diffusion of a technological culture marked on ethics.

The present study aims to investigate the role of education in developing identity in Internet era and the cyberspace. Today the spread of Internet and the cyberspace and the establishment of information society have created particular arguments regarding the manner of using these technologies. One of the arguments raised is the individual identity in relation to this technology. Therefore this study tries to examine identities in cyberspace through analytical and descriptive method as well as the philosophical inquiry. This investigation is conducted from an existential attitude and based on ideas from existentialist philosophers. The presented discussions revealed that people might adopt multiple identities in cyberspace; that is the individuals might take on several identities and lack a fixed identity. Considering the existential aspects in the field of education could help the development of individual identities, therefore the present study offers some recommendations including raising the individual awareness about “self” and the specific conditions and aspects of cyberspace that differ from those of real life, facilitating and encouraging cooperation, and creating an interactional environment for exchanging ideas about cyberspace experiences and engaging with the real world. Additionally, focusing on “I-Thou” and mutual relationship in the field of education could provide the possibility for mutual and improved understanding of the individual from self. Finally, by valuing the arts in the curricula the educators could facilitate the students’ existence and individual identities to flourish and grow.

There are many educational resources on the Internet. Learning objects are conceived as a way of resusing these resources. The Sharable Content Object Reference Model (SCORM) is a common model for learning objects that makes the reuse of educational contents among different systems. The objective of this paper was to show how it is possible to view and access from a mobile device educational content formatted as a learning object and packaged under the SCORM model. This is very useful in mobile learning (m-learning), where it is common that the materials created are very specific to a particular learning environment and unable to be reused in other platforms compared to those for which they were created. The application created for this purpose, named SCORMmobile, has been used at present in real environments by several e-learning businesses.

This paper presents an experimental study on young children’s off-task behaviors with and without the designed system called e-PAYA (PA for pat, YA for yell) which comprises learning devices, a sensory input device, a wireless local network and RFID software. We demonstrate the impacts on learning by applying e-PAYA in storytelling. The research methods include observation, questionnaire survey, interviewing and experiment. Sixty 4-year-old children were selected from a private preschool in Taipei City. Half of them were arranged in an experimental group with e-PAYA, with the others in a control group without e-PAYA. The proposed framework was designed, implemented and validated through a prototype system. The results show that there are significant differences in regard to group and gender. With e-PAYA, frequency analysis shows that on-task performance is significantly greater than that in the control group (p=.001).

An ADHD patient joining into a class is a big challenge for teachers. For taking care of all students, it is difficult for teachers to pay more attention to the ADHD patient. Thus, an activity detection and warning system for ADHD patient is proposed in this paper to help teachers controlling whole class. We extract discrete cosine transform coefficients in pre-coded video bitstream to measure the activity. If the activity of the ADHD patient is higher than the average activity of whole class, the proposed system will remind the teacher to take care the ADHD patient. Experimental results show that the proposed system can detect the activity of ADHD patient efficiently.

The problem of educational resources and urban/rural learning achievement for indigenous students living in remote areas has become significant. Some scholars proposed that the teaching material based on indigenous culture can improve the learning performance. In addition, indigenous students prefer using the senses to help learning, especially dynamic, visual image, informal, and lively learning methods. Augmented reality (AR) is a technique for visual sensation of virtual objects combined with the real environment, using image processing technology to interact with virtual objects, also allowing users to blend into a situational virtual reality. It has been comprehensively applied to various fields, and its importance has also been recognized in education. To motivate the learning interest, this study developed the gear instructional module using AR. The trial teaching and observational records from the instructional activity were used to show that the developed module can promote the learning interest and the learning motivation.
