Xerophytic plant communities of the Lower Volga valley

The review and classification of the plant communities of the classes Festucetea vaginatae Soó ex Vicherek 1972 and Artemisietea lerchianae Golub 1994 of Lower Volga Valley has been carried out. They are xerophytic plant communities according to its floristic composition and ecology. The Lower Volga Valley vegetation database was used for review and classification of the plant communities. The database was created using the computer program TURBOVEG. Now it includes 14972 relevés collected during 1924–2018 on the territory of the Lower Volga Valley. Supervised and unsupervised methods for the classification of vegetation were applied. The expert system based on the Cocktail method (Bruelheide, 2000) was used as a supervised method of classification. Cluster analysis was used as an unsupervised classification method. The new alliance Carduion uncinati and the new association Carduo uncinati–Artemisietum scopariae have been established for vegetation of fallow land on brown desert soils.

Flora of the Yukhnovskiy biological sanctuary (Belarus)

429 higher vascular plants from 74 families and 269 genera were marked at the territory of the Yukhnovskiy biological sanctuary during the field studies in 2018. Based on research, there was prepared a checklist of flora in which all the species were given their bioecological and geographical characteristics. Also information on distribution and occurrence degree was provided briefly. There were given taxonomic, ecological and geographical analyses of flora. Synanthropic fraction was defined and described. There were marked the places of growth of 12 species included in the Red List of Belarus: Arnica montana, Campanula latifolia, Cephalanthera longifolia, Huperzia selago, Laserpitium latifolium, Lathyrus laevigatus, L. linifolius, Lilium martagon, Prunella grandiflora, Pulmonaria angustifolia, Pulsatilla patens, Thesium ebracteatum. Also there were marked 13 species from the list of preventive protection: Aquilegia vulgaris, Anthericum ramosum, Campanula persicifolia, Daphne mezereum, Epipactis helleborine Goodyera repens, Hierochloe australis, Hepatica nobilis, Matteuccia struthiopteris, Phyteuma spicatum, Platanthera bifolia, Primula veris, Thalictrum aquilegifolium, as well as a number of rare plants for Minsk oblast and Belarus. Some invasive species were marked. Species diversity increase was registered due to cultivated alien species run wild.

Conspectus of the flora of vascular plants in natural areas of the Yakutsk botanical garden

The article presents the results of studies of the spontaneuos flora of the Yakutsk Botanical Garden of the Institute of Biological Problems of the Cryolithozone of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences – one of the Northern Gardens of Russia. The annotated list includes 383 spesies and subspecies from 243 genera and 72 families. Among the registered vascular plants, 11 species are included in the Red Book of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) – Allium prostratum, A. ramosum, Astragalus lenensis, Cleistogenes squarrosa, Cypripedium guttatum, Elytrigia villosa, Ephedra monosperma, Gagea pauciflora, Lilium pensylvanicum, Papaver jacuticum, Thermopsis lanceolata subsp. jacutica. For each taxon, information is presented on the general distribution and distribution in the natural area of the botanical garden. The paper gives a taxonomic, geographical and ecological-biomorphological analysis of the flora with the release of grown-up species only in the Garden. It was revealed that within 8 years the local flora increased by 131 species. Naturalization of alien species as Astragalus tugarinovii is indicated for the flora of Yakutia for first time.

The floristic findings of invasive and potentially invasive plant species in the North-West of the Republic of Bashkortostan

The Republic of Bashkortostan because of the arrangement in South Ural, on border of Europe and Asia, is characterized by intensive course of invasive processes. In the last decades also naturalization of separate invasive species in natural habitats – in floodplains of the rivers, forest edges, on coastal and boggy meadows is observed. Researches on search of new locations of alien plant species are conducted since the end of the 90th years of the XX century. The publication of "black list" of flora of the Bashkortostan Republic (Abramova, Golovanov, 2016) including 100 invasive and potentially invasive plants and the "Abstract of adventive species of the Bashkortostan Republic" (Muldashev et al., 2017) which generalized data on localities of 457 alien plant species not peculiar to the nature of Bashkortostan became result of the carried-out works. Article represents addition to earlier published data, which are received during the forwarding researches of 2018 conducted in the northwest of the Bashkortostan. The research revealed 89 new localities of 12 invasive and potentially invasive plant species: Collomia linearis, Echinocystis lobata, Erigeron annuus, Heracleum sosnowskyi, Hippophae rhamnoides, Hordeum jubatum, Impatiens glandulifera, Lepidium densiflorum, Lupinus polyphyllus, Rosa rugosa, Solidago canadensis, S. gigantea.

New findings of alien species of vascular plants in the Yamalo-Nenets autonomous region (Russia)

The article provides information on the findings of 13 alien vascular plant species and 1 subspecies (from 14 genera and 7 families) made in the Yamalo-Nenets autonomous region (Russian Federation) in 2013–2017. Among the species found are new to the regional flora Cucurbita pepo and, possibly, Silene flos-cuculi, and rarely found in the region of Arctium tomentosum, Carduus crispus, Chenopodium glaucum, Convolvulus arvensis, Descurainia sophia, Geum aleppicum, Lactuca tatarica, Lotus corniculatus, Raphanus rhaphanistrum, Sisymbrium loeselii, Tussilago farfara.

About the finding of the highest reed (Phragmites altissimus (Benth.) Mabille) at the Southern Urals (Orenburg oblast)

As a result of the conducted field research in the territory of the Orenburg region reed huge (Phragmites altissimus (Benth.) Mabille) was for the first time noted. Earlier this species was not fixed both in Orenburg region, and in many adjacent regions. In this location this species is, apparently, adventive, accidentally ingressed species, near borders of a natural area, which is actively settled and naturalized in natural coastal and water communities within this locality is noted. Ph. altissimus forms monodominant communities, rather big on the area, with a combination to natural coastal and water gelofits.

Demographic characteristics of cenopopulations of Hedysarum razoumovianum Fisch. et Helm (Fabaceae) in the conditions of antropogenic press (Middle Volga region)

Ontogenetic structure of natural populations of rare plant species is the main characteristic in assessing their current state and forecasting further development. In the Middle Volga basin, the ontogenetic structure of Hedysarum razoumovianum Fisch et Helm (Fabaceae) populations was studied. The species is native to the northwestern border of the range and is included in the Red Books of the Russian Federation and Samara Region. In the course of the work, population-ontogenetic research techniques were used. The assessment of the types of populations carried out by the criterion of "delta-omega". The basic ontogenetic spectrum of coenopopulations centered with the predominance of mature generative individuals. Most coenopopulations are mature normal. Average demographic indices of cenopopulations Hedysarum razoumovianum : substitution index – 0.30; recovery index – 0.31; aging index – 0.04. The average age (Δ) is 0.44, the average efficiency (ω) is 0.72. The change in the demographic parameters of Hedysarum razoumovianum cenopopulations on the Middle Volga is influenced by the degree of anthropogenic load. It was revealed that a strong anthropogenic load, like its complete absence, leads to a gradual aging of populations.
