Bacillus circulance strain L2 and Bacillus licheniformis strain 2J-1 were isolated from soil samples of different places of Akola district and were identified by 16s rDNA sequencing. Bacillus circulance strain L2 was grown on media containing 1% colloidal chitin having temperature 40°C and pH 7, maximum enzyme production was observed for the period of 5 days. Bacillus licheniformis strain 2J-1 was also grown on media containing 1% colloidal chitin having temperature 50°C and pH 7, maximum enzyme production was observed for the period of 6 days. Chitinase was purified through ammonium sulfate precipitation, dialysis and gel filtration chromatography, chitinase optimum temperature was found at 40°C and pH 7.5 for Bacillus circulance strain L2 and optimum temperature 45°C and pH 7.3 for Bacillus licheniformis strain 2J-1.Thermostability studies were carried out and finding of this studies reveal that Bacillus licheniformis strain 2J is more thermostable and higher chitinase producer as compare to Bacillus circulance strain L2 which is useful for industries and biotechnological applications.

Cd(II), MoO2(VI), Th(IV) and ZrO(IV) complexes of Butanamide 3-oxo-N-phenyl-2-(4-methyl phenyl hydrazono) have been synthesized in pure solid state and analysed. All these complexes have been subjected to thermal studies using thermo-gravimetric analysis (TGA) and differential thermal analysis (DTA) and experimental data obtained from the TGA has been utilized to confirm the composition of complexes and to establish their relative thermal stabilities. The activation energy (Ea) of the decomposition reactions of the complexes have been evaluated graphically by Coats-Redfern equation. The kinetic parameters such as enthalpy of activation (∆H), entropy of activation (∆S), and free energy change (∆G) for the first stage of decomposition were evaluated by Coats-Redfern equation. The complexes exhibited considerable antibacterial activity against gram positive S.Aureus, gram negative E.coli.

Jatropha maheswarii Subram.& Nayar is an endemic plant distributed in the south coastal regions of Thoothukudi and Tirunelveli districts. It belongs to the family Euphorbiaceae. The stem and leaf of this plant are used by the rural folk similar to other Jatropha species in curing skin diseases, hemorrhage and tooth infections. Gas chromatography and mass spectrometric analysis ofmethanol extract of leaf revealed the presence of twenty two compounds.The major chemical constituents were Vitamin-E (19.96%), Phytol (16.96%), Imidazole2-amino-5-[(2-carboxy), vinyl] and Squalene (6.14%).

The present paper deals with the comparative study of pollen grains of Jatropha curcus L. and Jatropha gossypifolia L. available in the North Eastern region of India at different sucrose solution and temperature. The pollen grain germination responsive to sucrose concentration and temperature was found almost same in both the species. The highest germination percentage were 79.62±0.83 % in 25% sucrose solution at 300C in the former and 76.02±0.78% in 30% sucrose solution at 300C in the later.

In the present investigation seven carriers – talc, saw dust, fuller’s earth, rice husk, sugarcane bagasse, charcoal and wheat bran were evaluated for the production of bioformulation. The bacteria used for bioformulation development were root nodulating Rhizobium sp. RASH6Chl+Kan+ and phosphate solubilizing Pseudomonas fluorescens PB6Amp+Str+. Both bacterial strains were inoculated in all the carriers separately and in combination with each other (co-inoculants). The bacterial population was determined in each carrier up to six month storage. Sawdust proved to be the best carrier in both water holding capacity (350 %) and also in maintaining the bacterial population for both individual and co-inoculation. Saw dust based formulation was separately amended with CMC, sucrose, molasses and gum. Enrichment of saw dust with molasses brought maximum increment in population both in mono and co-inoculants. Finally the impact of six month-stored enrichment inoculants on plant productivity was determined taking chickpea as a test crop. The co-inoculants proved much better in enhancing the seedling biomass and the nodule number. Molasses enriched saw dust based formulation showed 48.43 %, 52.02 % and 57.41 % enhancement in dry weight with RASH6, PB6 and their co-inoculant respectively after 60 days of sowing. Results showed that enrichment of carrier is expected to permit the retention of cell viability thus increasing the effectiveness of the active material.

Greenhouse experiments were undertaken to study the effect of the two AM fungal inoculation with three levels of K2HPO4; 50mg/kg, 100mg/kg and 150mg/kg on Lagerstroemia lanceolata. The results revealed that plants received AM fungal inoculation showed increased P content in shoots after 120 days. Plants grown after the inoculation of AM fungi showed significantly increased plant height, root length, leaf area and chlorophyll content with 100mg/kg compared to non-inoculated plants after 120 days. However, the percent root colonization and AM fungal spore number drastically reduced in Gm+Gl+3P level treated plants. It can be concluded that there is need of pre-inoculation in AM fungi with low balanced level of phosphorous treatment to forest/timber nursery seedlings, before they transplanted into the field.

Indian medicinal plants contain antimicrobial properties. Aqueous leaf extracts of five medicinal plants viz. Ocimum sanctum (Linn), Mentha arvensis (Linn), Cymbopogon citratus (Stapf), Eucalayptus globules (Labill), Tridax procumbens (Linn) were screened for their antifungal activity at 10%, 20% and 30% concentration against eight fungal species isolated from stored seeds of groundnut.i.e. Aspergillius niger, A. flavus, A. terreus, A. fumigatus, Penecillium citrinum, Fusarium oxysporum, Alternaria alternata, Curvularia lunata. Aqueous leaf extract of Ocimum sanctum, Mentha arvensis showed highest antifungal activity. Inhibitory activity of leaf extracts on vegetative growth increased with increase in the concentration.

Disposal of different organic wastes is one of the most important intimidations for human which include tree leaves, garden wastes, agricultural wastes etc. Leaves are potential sources of valuable nutrients providing a high quality of organic matter, which should be returned to the soil. A field experiment was carried out in the Research farm located in the Botanical garden of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University, Aurangabad to evaluate the effects of aerobic (NADEP tank) and anaerobic (Bangalore pit) leaf composts on the yield and nutrient contents of fodder maize. These treatments were compared with fertilizer alone (FER) and absolute control (CON) with four replicates each. The mineral fertilizers N, P2O5 and K2O (120:80:40 kg/ha) were applied through urea, single super phosphate and murate of potash for comparison. The root, stem and leaves of maize plant were analyzed for dry matter, N, P, K, Ca, Reducing sugar etc. The average yield of fresh aerial biomass (Kg/ha), reducing sugar content, nitrogen and crude protein content of maize was highest in the plots received with AC amendment.

The studies on callus induction using different explants and regeneration of plants from callus were carried out in tomato (Lycopercicum esculentum) cv. Pusa ruby. Cotyledonanry, nodal and internodal explants were cultured on MS media having different concentrations of BAP and NAA to induce callus. MS medium containing 2.0 mgs BAP and 0.2 mgs/l NAA shows best callusing and shoot regeneration response using internode explants. The shoots regenerated were multiplied In vitro on 0.1mg/l of BAP and different concentrations of IAA (0.0, 1.0, 1.5, 2.0, and 2.5). Shoots developed were rooted on full and half strength MS media containing IBA. Half strength MS medium was found to be the best rooting medium, however addition of IBA (2.0 mg/l) was found essential to induce profuse roots.

The main objective of the study was to develop a protocol for callus induction and shoot regeneration in potato (Solanum tuberosum L.). The sprouts of potato tubers were used as starter explant to establish initial culture. The explants were cultured on basal Murashige and Skoog medium supplemented with different hormonal concentrations and combinations were studied. Ten explants were cultured in each combination. The highest degree of callus formation on MS media supplemented with 2.0-4.0 mg/l of 2,4-D was observed. The regeneration of shoots observed when calli were sub cultured on MS media supplemented with 1-4mg/l of TDZ and 1-4 mg/l of BAP.

This study was under taken to assess toxic effect of plant extract (Latex, Euphorbia nerifolia, leaf extract of Annona squamosa) to a freshwater snail work exposed to a pre- determine LC 10, constituents of plant extracts for 24, 48, and 72 hours. The biochemical constituents namely total protein glycogen and lipids were estimated after different exposure periods due to the toxic effect of Latex of Euphorbia nerifolia. These organic constituents were count to be allowed altered significantly.
